Biographie

François Quitin received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels, Belgium and from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium in 2011, and the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the ULB in 2007. From October 2007 to September 2011, he worked at the OPERA Department, ULB, as an F.R.S.-F.N.R.S. research fellow. He is currently working as a B.A.E.F. post-doctoral fellow at the Wireless Communications and Sensornets Labs at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is the recipient of the EuCAP 2009 Best Paper Award and is the author of several research papers and communications, and is actively participating in the european COST 2100 action. His research interests focus on propagation aspects and channel modeling for future wireless systems, as well as exploiting wireless channel properties to improve wireless communication systems.

Activités de recherche

Channel Modeling and Pre-coding Techniques for Polarized MIMO Systems : In future wireless systems, multiple antennas will be used at the transmitter and at the receiver side to increase the data rates. The problem of multi-antenna systems is that the antennas have to be spaced several centimetres, increasing the overall equipment size. This problem can be resolved by using polarization diversity. These systems used perpendicularly polarized, co-located antennas to decrease the size of the mobile terminal. The aim of this project is to establish an experimental channel model that can be used for simulating and describing polarized MIMO systems.

Multi-Frequencies Wireless Systems : The increasing demand for wireless systems has led to an extensive usage of the electromagnetic spectrum. The question whether several systems operating at different frequencies can be used to combat frequency-selective fading and shadowing requires an extensive investigation of the wireless channel at different frequencies. This aim of this project is to conduct extensive measurement campaigns, where the channel is measured at several frequencies simultaneously. The objective is to determine whether systems at operating at different frequencies undergo similar fading and shadowing. This is also of interest for wireless technology regulators in order to determine if electromagnetic fields at different frequencies may be considered as uncorrelated or not.
